Future Aerospace Platform Component Systems

  • How can communication and navigation systems be improved in UAVs, cubesatellites, or even between platforms? (eg cubesat swarms connecting with UAVs)

  • What digital imaging or camera breakthroughs are critical to new applications or extended use of future aerospace platforms?  (eg higher/lower resolution, infrared, hyperspectral imaging, etc.)

  • Suggested improvements for data collection and instantaneous/on-board data analysis?  Improvements to data transmission (eg between vehicles or to ground/telemetry)  

  • What manufacturing methods are need for future platforms or to reduce costs (eg 3D printers to make customized UAVs)?  How can manufacturing be more automated?

  • What other types of platform monitoring will be useful, for example mobile applications?

  • What breakthroughs will allow for smaller or more agile platforms (eg nanotechnology, flexible electronics, etc.)?

  • Space vs. Aviation (overlapping technical challenges)

  • New power and propulsion systems (eg all electric or hybrid propulsion systems)

  • More efficient, durable, reliable component systems

  • Re-usable spacecraft and in-space services (eg re-fueling, repairs or replacements in the field)

  • New types of engines and propellants for exposure to extreme temperatures with re-firing capabilities and greater fuel efficiency
